The VNA inspection pad helps businesses perform their pre-use or daily safety inspections. The checklist is designed to help you comply with your duty of care under HSE guidance L117 and PUWER. The duplicate checklist design creates two signed copies of each inspection and incorporates a PASS/FAIL notice. Each pad has 30 checklists and is used in tandem with a hi-vis display wallet

Our checklists are suitable for use with any standard forklift including Combilift, Jungheinrich and Linde.

How to use

Before every shift, the operator of the VNA truck can simply work down the inspection checklist, checking the safety of each component in turn. Once the inspection is complete, assuming safety has been established, the green PASS inspection certificate can be placed inside a safety status indicator on the truck ensuring that everyone can clearly see that the truck is safe for use. Failing VNA trucks can be similarly identified by a red FAIL certificate and reported for maintenance. The duplicate copy of the certificate remains inside the inspection pad and can be used as evidence of inspections should you ever need to produce this for the HSE or other official parties.

FAQs

What should I safety check daily on a Very Narrow Aisle truck (VNA)?

Typical VNA checks should include the following areas:

  • Chassis, bodywork and fittings
  • Battery and charges
  • Hydraulic system and fluids
  • Electrics
  • Load Lift System
  • Controls

What is a VNA inspection?

The guidance on safety inspections for a VNA would follow the advice for forklift trucks. The HSE ACOP Rider-operated lift trucks (Operator training and safe use) sets out practical guidance to help employers meet their legal obligations for PUWER and LOLER.

It recommends that you always follow the manufacturer’s or authorised supplier’s instructions on inspection, maintenance and servicing and make sure there is:

  • a documented pre-shift check
  • a system for reporting defects and ensuring remedial work is carried out
  • a planned routine maintenance system
  • a periodic Thorough Examination and regular safety inspection
